Love Unstrung

I am the puppet master,
you are my broken doll,
your soul in my dominion,
your heart in my control.

I am the puppet master,
you are my little toy,
your voice an echo of my own,
your thoughts in my employ.

I am the puppet master,
you are my greatest prize,
you've turned the tables on me,
you've tamed me with your eyes.

I am the puppet master,
you are my sacred dove,
you've brought light to the darkness,
you've filled my heart with love.

I am the puppet master,
you are my only friend,
your embrace will complete me,
your death will be my end.

Poetry points to nothing but itself

Evening all!
Been a busy day so posting this later than planned, hope the weekend is treating you well.
Today I thought I'd share a little quote from E. M. Forster-

"A poem is true if it hangs together. Information points to something else. A poem points to nothing but itself."
Would you agree? Do poems have to contain any more truth than the emotions they present? Does there need to be a deeper meaning and history behind the words? Or are the words and feelings presented enough?

Soulseer

He travelled far and journeyed wide,
To find those with a spark inside,
Each one a sacred gift of love,
A soul descended from above.
He found her in a dark despair,
Lost in a world with none to care,
Her bright eyes drowning in her tears,
This slave to weaker people's fears.
He told her that she held a spark,
A light to guide her through the dark,
This power she'd hid for too long,
The chorus to her siren's song.
He took her hand and held it tight,
To save her from the dark of night,
Their bond beyond all love and lust,
A sanctuary of hope and trust.
He watched her dream in silent sleep,
Her mind still gripped by pain so deep,
A broken doll so incomplete.
This fallen angel at his feet.
He took her from the world she knew,
Towards the dawn of life anew,
Another land beyond the stars,
To mend her wings and heal her scars.
He helped her grow across the years,
As slowly they allayed her fears,
Until she spread her wings at last,
And left her old life in the past.

Poetry is the name of the nameless

Morning everyone!
Hope the weekend is treating you well.
Today I thought I'd share a quote by Audre Lorde-
"Poetry is the way we help give name to the nameless so it can be thought. The farthest horizons of our hopes and fears are cobbled by our poems, carved from the rock experiences of our daily lives."
Very true words there, without a doubt.

A Darker Rose

The rose we're told is often red,
the image set deep in our head,
but what if it were pink or blue,
or something of a darker hue?
The rose we're told is often red,
the symbol of true love its said,
but what of pain or baser needs,
the lust for deep and sordid deeds?
The rose we're told is often red,
the petals scattered on the bed,
but what if we could change the track,
and have the petals painted black?

Poetry is Rebellion

Morning all!
Hope the weekend is treating you well.
Today I thought I'd share a quote by James Branch Cabell that I really like-
"Poetry is man's rebellion against being what he is. "
Sums it up rather well, I think!

Poetry is the darkness of the Soul

Morning everyone!
I came across this quote today and thought I'd share it with you all-
"Poetry allows me to express emotions that lie dormant in the darkness of my soul until at last pen meets paper."
Very true words, especially in my case.
Hope you all have a fantastic weekend ahead of you!

Poetry is a powerful language

Morning everyone!
Hope the weekend is treating you well- its been pretty good for me so far.
I cake across this quote and thought I'd share it with you all:
"Poetry is language at its most distilled and most powerful"
Sums it up pretty well, I think.

Poetry is a Painting

Morning all!
Another busy weekend ahead- so to kick it off I thought I'd share this little quote from the great Leonardo Da Vinci-
"Painting is Poetry which is seen and not heard & Poetry is a Painting which is heard but not seen."
Hope you all have an excellent weekend!

The Architecture of Life

Morning everyone!
Came across this quote and thought I'd share it with you all-
"Poetry is not only dream and vision. it is the skeleton architecture of our lives. It lays the foundations for a future of change, a bridge across our fears of what has never been before."
Hope you're all having a fantastic weekend!

Love of Dark Things

Morning All!

Hope you've all got a fantastic weekend planned.

I came across this quote by Pablo Neruda today and thought I'd share it with you all:

"I love you as certain dark things are to be loved, in secret, between the shadow and the soul."

Umbra Vita

Despite the path that she now walks,
She still can feel the moon's embrace,
Through dreams her mind forever stalks,
In search of her forgotten race.

Despite the years that have gone by,
She still can hear the hunter's call,
His song a dark and loving cry,
To join him where the shadows fall.

Despite the pain that she has felt,
She still can sense the beast within,
Beyond the hand she has been dealt,
This force that tempts her heart to sin.

Despite the things that she has seen,
She still can find the magick trail,
Through all the places she has been,
Back to that world beyond the veil.

Bleeding Ink

Her body is her journal,
H
er body is her life,
Her body is her monument to misery and strife.

She writes about the memories,
She writes about the pain,
She writes about the loneliness and tears that fall like rain.

Her ink holds all the secrets,
Her ink holds all the lies,
Her ink holds all the truth she knows when all that she loves dies.

Poetry is a story

Morning All!
I came across this very simple but true quote and thought I'd share it with you:
"Poetry is a story that is so good, it doesn't need complete sentences"
Anyway- hope you all have a great weekend!

The Impossible Dream

Morning all!

Another weekend rolling into view and I hope you've all got some amazing plans for it.

I came across this quote today and felt I had to share it as I really feel it sums up the essence of what "poetry" is without resorting to the usual romantic or over the top sentiments-

"Poetry is the journal of a sea animal living on land, wanting to fly in the air"

To me that really covers everything from the hope and positivity of bright and happy poetry right through to pain and despair of darker and deeper poetry.

Anyway- hope you all have a fantastic weekend, whatever you get up to!

Great Poetry

Morning all!
Hope the weekend is treating you well- thought I'd quickly share this little quote I came across this morning:
"A great poem can move you, shake you, and remind you what it is to be human."
Sums it all up pretty well, I thought

Poetry Is...

Mornin' All!

I came across this quote today and thought I'd open the floor and ask you what poetry is/means to you.

Aristotle is quoted as saying that "poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular."

For me, writing poetry has la...rgely been a form of personal therapy, a way of analysing and dealing with my darkest thoughts and deepest feelings. Likewise, reading poetry has given me an insight into the thoughts and feelings of others in a way that conversing in normal terms never could.

Would be interested to get your thoughts- what is poetry to you, and what does it mean in your life?

Anyway- hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

Flumen Uitae

Life is but a river- ever flowing on its course,
Surging ever forward further from its humble source.
Hope is our great vessel- the best ship that we can sail,
Taking us along our quest to find our holy grail.
Faith is the horizon- ever just beyond our reach,
Promising a new world full of answers we beseech.
Luck is simply tidal- ever changing with the flow,
Rising up and falling back much sooner than we'd know.
Love is our last lifeboat- ever there when times are rough,
Saving us from drowning when at last we've fought enough.

Poetry Bling

Morning Everyone!
Today I thought I'd share a photo of an amazing anniversary gift that my beloved gave me earlier this month; a stunning bracelet with an engraving of a quote I wrote back in 2010:
"The pencil of the mind must meet the paper of the soul to reveal the words of the heart"
I thought it was a remarkable gift and it got me thinking that I should maybe look into more jewellery and other such merchandise with my verses and quotes on. Would be good to get your thoughts on this!
Anyway- hope you're all having a fantastic weekend!!

Be Unique

Morning All!

Today I thought I'd share a quote that I came across:

"Don’t resort to imitation but rather look for inspiration to further your own creation in pursuit of innovation."

To me this really says to just be yourself and not a clone of someone else or something that someone else wants you to be, find inspiration in the world around you, and build something uniquely "you" in this life.

Brilliant message captured perfectly in the associated artwork by Sean McCabe (https://seanwes.com/); well worth checking out his other works.

Hope you all enjoy the weekend!

Novem Corde

In all that we have been through,
And with all that's come to be,
Your heart has always been true,
As you've walked this road with me.
The journey may have been long,
And we've many miles to go,
Your soul has ever been strong,
As we've learned all we now know.
Through all the pain we've endured,
And each dark day that we share,
Your kiss has kept me assured,
As you've shown how much you care.
Though life has brought us laughter,
And more than our share of tears,
Our love shines ever brighter,
As we go on through the years.

Word Clouds

Morning everyone!

Woke up this morning with a jumble of words and ideas in my head, which brought to mind "word clouds" and got me wondering what my most commonly used words in Poetry are and how they would look if displayed in a word cloud.

I did some digging and came across Wordle (www.wordle.net), a site that creates word clouds based on text that you supply. So I pulled together my 200 most commonly used words (HelloPoetry.com have a nice feature for this) and then put them into Wordle.

The picture below is what Wordle came back with- and I think it's pretty awesome and quite fun. Why not try it for yourself?

Hope the weekend is treating you well!

Hail and Well Met!

Morning all!

Today I thought I'd post up a picture of the outfit I wore to Kentwell Hall earlier this week for one of their "Tudor Days", if you're in the UK and into Tudor history then I'd highly recommend visiting Kentwell as it's about as authentic an experience as you're going to get in this day and age.

Find out more about Kentwell here: http://www.kentwell.co.uk/

One thing I found amusing about the day was that Kentwell's current focus is the year 1559; which coincidentally was a year of focus for a poem I wrote a few years back (and posted up earlier this week).

----------------------------------

1559 (written 21/11/2008)
To live in this immoral time,

Uncouth and plagued by wretched crime,

Despised by all with vicious scorn,

Our monarch blind with love forlorn,

Restrained for faith and for belief,

Suspicious minds imposing grief.

----------------------------------

The more eagle-eyed readers out there will notice that there is more to this poem than meets the eye as it's also one of my acrostic works.

Anyway- if you're looking for something interesting and unique to do then why not visit Kentwell?

Thanks again for all the support and have a great weekend!

The Shape of Poetry

Morning all!
Gearing up for another busy Saturday here, but thought I'd share this quickly.
Been looking into different forms and styles of poetry lately and came across "concrete" or "shaped" poetry, and one of the best examples of this that I've seen is the little gem below.
Not something I've ever tried to do myself but I may well give it a go in the near future and see what I can come up with.
Have any of you done similar works in the past? Be interesting to get your thoughts.
Hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

How To Be A Sensitive Poet

Morning Everyone!

Hope the weekend is treating you well!

Came across this little gem from the mind that brought us Futurama and The Simpsons- Matt Groening's "How To Be A Sensitive Poet".

Name that poet!

Morning All!

Today I thought we'd play a little game of "Name that Poet";

How many of these world famous literary faces do you know?

Which one is your favourite?

Also, can you spot the face that shouldn't be there?

Hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

What lies behind us and before us...

Morning all!
Hope the weekend is treating you well so far; been productive for me so far, which is always a good thing.
Came across this and thought I'd share it- I quite like the idea of poetry and quotes on jewellery as it's quite a rarity, I also really like the verse itself:

"What Lies Behind Us and What Lies Before Us are Tiny Matters Compared to What Lies Within Us"
If you're interested in the origins of that verse, check out this link:
http://quoteinvestigator.com/2011/01/11/what-lies-within/
It's most often attributed to Ralph Waldo Emerson though no evidence has been found that he actually wrote it.

What do you think?

Have you every come across these lines before?

Quiet please, poet at work...

Morning All!
Gonna be a busy weekend over this way so thought I'd share this early today- seems it's been as productive a week for Nekatu Poetry as it has for me.
I came across this little sign which I thought was quite amusing- may stick it on my office door, or better yet on a t-shirt!

Would be especially useful for the times when I'm trying to work through a really long poem as there seems to be no end of distractions and interruptions when I set out to do that!
Today I thought I'd share a little poetic short story I wrote a while back, it's not my usual style but I quite like it and I hope you do too, be warned though, it is quite long...
-----------------------------------------
Stark Eye Night (written 03/10/10)
Lights are dimmed in hallways dark,
But for a door marked “Thomas Stark”,
A shadow steps up to the door,
One knock, two, and then one more,
“Come in, please”, our hero cries,
In she comes, tears in her eyes,
“Help me, please! My baby’s gone!”
“They said you’d help- that you’re the one!”
Tom takes her in and sits her down,
A stunning girl despite her frown,
“Of course I’ll help- I’m here for you-”
“Please tell me what I need to do!”
She smiles then- a sight to see,
Her hair like golden destiny,
“Oh, thank you! I’m so very glad!”
“She’s run away- I feel so bad!”
Now Thomas looks on in a haze,
Confused and lost and in a daze,
“You’re baby’s run away?” he says,
“I’ve never heard of such a phrase!”
She laughs- a sound so sweet and light,
He watches her- each curve so right,
“Oh, silly me, I should have said-”
“I’ve lost my dog- right from her bed!”
So Thomas laughs- the story clear,
“Ah, now I see; and don’t you fear!”
“When was it that you saw her last?”
“What is her name? we must move fast!”
Our lady stands and takes Tom’s hand,
Her hands are soft- no wedding band,
“Her name is ‘Sparkles’, such a dear-”
“I saw her last two blocks from here!”
Young Thomas guides her to the door,
He grabs his coat from off the floor,
“We’ll find her- don’t you worry, miss!”
“and when we do, perhaps a kiss?”
Her blushing cheek caused Tom to smile,
On they went to search each mile,
No more than two or three roads gone,
They heard a bark from the next one,
“Sparkles? is that you my dear?”
“please come back home- I need you near!”
A massive mound of mammoth fur,
Came rushing at them in a blur,
“Is that your baby ‘sparkles’, love?”
“I hope it is… heavens above!”
As Sparkles ran towards them both,
Young Thomas took a solemn oath-
To stand his ground and be man,
As falling was not in his plan,
Yet when the dog had made a stop,
Both man and woman there did drop,
Yet both did laugh and cry with joy,
As Tom felt like a playground boy,
Then standing up, she took his arm,
and on they walked now safe from harm,
With Sparkles loyal at their side,
They returned safe and went inside,
And thus our hero won his prize,
While staring deep into love’s eyes.

Hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

Why did the chicken cross the road?

Morning all!
Hope the weekend is treating you well so far- been pretty good so far here.
I came across this image this morning, a poetic take on the classic "why did the chicken cross the road" joke and it got me thinking; poetry is often a very sombre and serious art form and very seldom funny or vaguely amusing (at least not intentionally!)
Have any of you come across any comical poets? Would be interesting to see the styles they use and how they convey their messages.

Is there such a thing as “bad” poetry?

Morning Everyone!
Been a busy week over this way, but a fairly productive one.
I came across this little image earler this morning and thought I'd share it with you; aside from the comedy element it does raise a very interesting question, is there really such a thing as "bad" poetry?
Personally I feel that poetry is about self expression and putting your thoughts to paper; the best poems will connect deeply with a multitude of readers, but with approximately 7,095,217,980 people in the world surely anything that anyone writes has to connect with at least one other person?
As a writer/poet/artist/anyone creative I think all you can really hope for is to make a conneciton with at least one other person in the world through your chosen art form; and if you make that connection it surely validates your work.
What do you all think though? Would be interesting to get your thoughts!
Anyway- hope you're all having a good day so far and that the rest of the weekend treats you well

Secret of the Soul

They often said she had a soul much older than her years,
a
force that dwelled within her heart that conquered all her fears,
a wise and gifted creature born of suffering and strife,
some noble fallen angel who had watched her all through life.

They often asked how she could paint the colours of the soul,
a talent that she never claimed was in her to control,
a simple canvas painted by her crude and untrained hand,
conveyed both thoughts and feelings the whole world could understand.

They often sought her guidance on their own attempts at art,
a task she felt unworthy of deep down inside her heart,
a challenge just to find the words each one would like to hear,
unable to relay her thoughts on all they held most dear,

They often found her hard to fathom when they came to meet,
a sense of something hidden in the shuffling of her feet,
a different personality to what they would expect,
but her work and reputation were enough for their respect.

They often thought about her when they looked at all she'd done,
a life spent in reflection in the shadow of the sun,
a stranger in the world though never far from any friend,
forever cloaked in mystery until the very end.

Verse #800

We all hold secrets in our heart,
that cannot leave our mind's control,
for fear they would tear us apart,
and leave a chasm in our soul.

Verse #799

Yesterday is history and cannot be undone,
tomorrow is a dream we've lost before it has begun,
today is all the chance we have to be all we can be,
so take a stand and make this day a sight for all to see.

Thursday, May 30, 2013

Verse #798

Our souls have travelled far and wide to seek out worthy hosts,
to share with us all they have seen and teach us all they know,
we owe so much of who we are to these immortal ghosts,
so listen to the words they say and let them help you grow.

Wednesday, May 29, 2013

Verse #797

We cannot see our future if we hide from our own past,
we cannot build a new life on the ashes of the last,
we cannot meet the challenge if we do not stand our ground,
we cannot hope to win a war if peace cannot be found.

Verse #796

Take me to the dawn beyond the darkness of despair,
take my heart towards the light of those who really care,
take me back to find the key to all that's in the past,
take my hand and promise me that all we share will last.

Monday, May 27, 2013

Verse #795

We greet the dawn with hope and joy for all that's yet to be,
a new adventure calling us towards our destiny,
through all the dreams we've shared we've shaped the world we've come to see,
this world where all that we desire exists for you and me.

Thursday, May 23, 2013

Verse #794

This life is ever challenging- it gives and it will take,
regardless of the songs we sing or choices that we make,
all we can do is journey on along life's changing path,
and hope that fate will smile on us and spare us from her wrath.

Hanauhoulani

His shadow still walks next to her,
the wind still calls his name,
the days have gone by in a blur,
but still she feels the same.
She curls up with his memory,
for now lost in her dreams,
for all that they had planned to be,
... and never would it seems.
His shadow still walks by her side,
the loss still haunts her mind,
the months have drifted with the tide,
no peace for her to find.
Her heart will learn to trust again,
in time her wounds will heal,
in days to come she'll love again,
despite how she may feel.
His shadow still walks close behind,
the tears less painful now,
the years lost in the daily grind,
she's learned to cope somehow.
She smiles a bit from time to time,
a little more each day,
a glimpse of something once sublime,
that will return someday.
His shadow still walks next to her,
the pain in shadow too,
the distant days lost in a blur,
a dawn of something new.
Her life is very different now,
all darkness in the past,
all that she feels is love now,
and the faith that it will last.
His shadow still walks in her stead,
the world would hardly know,
the pain still kept deep in her head,
but time has helped her grow.
She now has love to keep her strong,
a partner through life's game,
a son they've both sought for so long,
who shares that long lost name.

Verse #793

No matter where we go from here,
no matter what they say,
trust in our bond and feel no fear,
for love will rule each day.

Verse #792

Nature gives abundantly in all that we could need,
alas she also takes away with equal force and greed,
we bow our heads in sorrow now for all that has been lost,
and shed a tear for every life this devastation cost.

Monday, May 20, 2013

Verse #791

The sun will outlive all of us and stars will still shine when we're gone,
but even once we disappear the love we've shared will linger on,
for even though our names and deeds will sink into the sands of time,
true souls survive beyond this realm to live a life sublime.

Saturday, May 18, 2013

Verse #790

Lock me up and chain me down,
paint my world in black and brown,
take my love in your cold frown,
leave me here and let me drown.

Verse #789

Life exists to shape our soul,
to test our will and self control,
to challenge all we hold most dear,
to stand up to all that we fear.

Verse #788

Look deep into the pool of dreams you keep within your soul,
each ripple is a chance to take one dream and make it whole,
the trick is to let each one grow until the time is right,
but don't delay for far too soon they disappear from sight.

Verse #776

In spring we find all that is new and learn from all we see,
in summer we experiment and be all we can be,
in autumn we all settle down and shed each nagging doubt,
in winter we know who we are and what this life's about.

Frozen

Her path was clear and filled with light,
Her thoughts were pure and ever right,
Her love secure and passion bright,
Her faith a beacon through the night.
She dreamt of life in other lands,
She wished for more than empty sands,
She looked for hope in other's hands,
She found nothing but broken strands.
Her heart now cold as falling snow,
Her love crushed like the grass below,
Her soul turned frozen long ago,
Her smile now simply there for show.

Thursday, April 18, 2013

Verse #771

These long abandoned memories weigh heavy on the heart,
obsessed with ancient mysteries and shadows of the past,
through complicated histories that rip our thoughts apart,
lost in forgotten fantasies we knew could never last.

Verse #770

Dwell not on who you are right now nor who you used to be,
think only on the path ahead and what you'd like to see,
remember all the good and learn to let go of the past,
if you can manage all of this you will be free at last.

Tuesday, April 16, 2013

Verse #769

These words we share with ones we love,
these prayers we make to gods above,
these tears we shed for those in need,
these wars we wage for others' greed.

Verse #768

Take heart against the darkness and the fear that dwells within,
be strong through all adversity and let the war begin,
fight on for all eternity no matter what the cost,
stand tall against the enemy and claim back all you've lost.

Seishinshuuyou

Close your eyes to all you've been- forget all that you know,
Free your mind from darkness and let hope begin to grow.
Place your hand within mine- let our energies combine,
Feel the world retreating and the pain within resign.
Follow me through shadows- find the light that we all seek,
Keep me in your thoughts and hear the soothing words I speak.
Wake up to the morning- greet the dawn of this new day,
See the world in colour not that sad and lonely gray.
Breathe in the scent of freedom- clear the worry from your mind,
Walk tall amongst your kinsfolk and enjoy the peace you find.
Share your life with others- help them conquer all their fear,
Protect all those around you and forever hold love near.
Live each day within the light- don't let the darkness in,
Lead by your example and absolve yourself from sin.
Change the world around you- only you can claim this power,
Rest when all the work is done and dwell not on the hour.
Take comfort when the end is near- you will not be alone,
Remember I am with you and have shared in all you've known.

Verse #763

Wake to greet the dawning of another sacred day,
look toward the sun and wash the haze of sleep away,
hold tight to all your dreams to keep the pain and doubt at bay,
remember that life is a gift to use in your own way.

Verse #762

<blockquote><p><strong><em>To find a new beginning we must first find an end, </em></strong><strong><em>our wounds have to be closed and dressed before they’ll ever mend, </em></strong><strong><em>the book must first be finished before the sequel read, </em></strong><strong><em>so take the time to turn each page and heal yourself instead.</em></strong></p></blockquote>

Trivia

He looked back on the past,
To all those years so far behind,
Back to those distant memories of dreams he'd one day find.

He reached back to the past,
To where the future still seemed bright,
Back to those long lost fantasies that all would be alright.

He knows back in the past,
In those young and simple days,
That if all had been much clearer then they could have changed their ways.

He thought back in the past,
In that one-time family home,
That all would be so perfect even though they had to roam.

He screams back at the past,
For all the hell he has been through,
The hardships he has suffered far from all that he once knew.

He smiles back at the past,
For all the years that have since passed,
The bad times he survived and the good not soon surpassed.

He turns back from the past,
To this life he has since built,
This state of mind he lives in free from pain and without guilt.

He walks back from the past,
To this place where he touched ground,
This land of new beginnings where true happiness was found.

Verse #748

Our lives are filled with actors and the world is but a stage,
the script forever changing as we read through each new page,
the best role we can hope for is to just be who we are,
much better to be honest than to lie to be a star.

Verse #740

Angel's Rest

He watches her sleep peacefully,
Her warm chest rise and fall,
Her kind heart beating rhythmically,
In answer to love's call.

He thinks back to the darker days,
His cold and lonely youth,
His time spent in a silent daze,
Lost in depressing truth.

He dreamt of love and happiness,
A world where pain could end,
A life without the emptiness,
Where broken hearts can mend.

He looks back at this fragile form,
This angel in disguise,
This creature that could tame a storm,
With nothing but her eyes.

He curls up close beside her now,
To gently draw her near,
To feel her breath so soft and slow,
And drift in love so dear.

Verse #737

The pain we feel is transient and will depart in time,
although right now it brings us down and halts our lofty climb,
it may feel like a punishment for some forgotten crime,
but in the end we will be free to live a life sublime.

Renascentia

Alabaster island in a sea of hate and doom,
Silver streak of lightning in the dark and dreary gloom,
Crimson rivers flowing to the cold and lonely ground,
Drifting fog of silence slowly creeping all around.

Empty voices whisper in the shadows of the night,Tunnels in the distance ending in unbroken light,
Hopes and fears receding into shapes before unseen,
Shifting thoughts of solace that at one time seemed unclean.

Rocky tracks sketched out across the alabaster shore,
Stormy seas have calmed now and lay silent ever more,
Shadows laid to rest within the warm forgiving ground,
Dreams take shape in sunlight as true peace at last is found.

Verse #721

Daze Gone By

Each day is masked in deja vu,
the songs repeat their plays again,
an end that still seems far from view,
so much now lost for other's gain.

Each day a mirror of the last,
reflecting all she'll never find,
an endless fog just drifting past,
absorbing all she's left behind.

Each day rolls by from dawn to dusk,
consuming all she has to give,
a hollow and dejected husk,
without the time for her to live.

Verse #718

The population growing as we cultivate our seed,
the conflict ever showing as we battle for each need,
the spark no longer glowing as we dwell on hate and greed,
the death knell loud and slowing as our planet starts to bleed.

Verse #711

Though we both are growing older as the years we've shared have shown,
I still find waking up with you can take my breath away,
you're still my greatest treasure and the best friend I have known,
and to me you grow more beautiful with every passing day.

Dark Reflection

His mind is full of secrets and his heart consumed by lies,
His soul forever wandering as Mother Mary cries,
Destruction in his wake and naught but pain and hurt to find,
A demon to the world around despised by all mankind.

His voice knows only anger and his eyes show no remorse,
His hate like fire burning fueled by hell's eternal force,
Damnation is his mission and disaster his true cause,
A nightmare incarnation baring fangs and golden claws.

His form is known to many though he goes by different names,
His reach is far and varied ever growing through his claims,
Corruption is his promise to this world in his control,
For he is the beast in all of us- the shadow on our soul.

Verse #710

We scale the tallest mountains and we swim the deepest seas,
we hunt the wildest creatures and we harvest plants and trees,
we pray to phantom deities and fight amongst our kind,
not knowing that all that we seek is in ourselves to find.

Verse #709

Though the nights grow colder and the dawn seems far away,
though it seems too hard to keep the demon horde at bay,
though you may not feel it now nor comprehend a way,
just know that love will save your soul to fight another day

Verse #708

Here we stand or here we fall,
humanity for one and all,
beneath our skin we're all the same,
despite what some may dare to claim.

Verse #707

Open up your heart to all the love life has to give,
leave all the fear behind and allow yourself to live,
open up your eyes to all the magic that we share,
leave all the hate behind and show the world that you still care.

Verse #706

There is no future without love,
no past without the stars above,
no gods but those within us all,
no hope to rise till first we fall.

Verse #705

Take us from this dark embrace,
this cold enslavement of our race,
to lands of green and days of light,
where love and truth shine ever bright.

Verse #704

Snowflakes drift across the sky to fall upon these frozen lands,
like dreams they float beyond our reach and fade when touched by mortal hands,
some say that they are the souls of those who long have left this plane,
reminding us of all that we have before they leave again.

Verse #703

I am naught but a number- just there for you to count,
a simple-minded creature- just there for you to mount,
a shadow in the mirror- that no one else can see,
a secret in your journal- and ever more to be.

Verse #702

Tomorrow cannot be found in the shining light of dawn,
yesterday is nothing more than something that we say,
the present is the only time we've had since we were born,
and all that we can hope for is to feel love's warmth today.

Verse #701

Tell me there is more than this,
an end to pain that leads to bliss,
an escape through an angel's kiss,
a place love cannot go amiss.

Thursday, January 17, 2013

Verse #700

One last chance to show we care,
one last glance for us to share,
one last angel in the snow,
one last kiss before we go.

Verse #699

His heart and soul were frozen- his spirit set in ice,
a punishment bestowed for all his avarice and vice,
he felt naught but regret up until the day she came,
she thawed the ice and taught him love by whispering his name.

Verse #698

Our lives are but a canvas that the gods could not complete,
with details added later through our love and our deceit,
forever to be altered or corrected each new day,
until the work is done at last and we can fade away.

Monday, January 14, 2013

Verse #697

Through frozen wastelands of despair,
through winter storms without a care,
through icy fields in darkness deep,
towards your love- my soul to keep.

Friday, January 11, 2013

Verse #696

We've stood upon the barricade and raised our battle cry,
we fought for truth and justice and for this did many die,
the war has long been over though our battle wages on,
so we sing this final chorus for our friends that are long gone.

Thursday, January 10, 2013

Verse #696

You took me from the shadows to a world within a dream,
you saved me from myself as you repaired each broken seam,
you are my life and love and all that's kept me here this long,
you've made me who I am today and keep me going strong.

A Bite of Reality

We're born into this world without a choice of when or where,
We learn from those around us through their harm or through their care,
Though dreams of greater things will give us hope for better days,
Our path is often guided more by luck than other ways.

We're taught that we have free will and though that may well be true,
We still depend on faith and hope to show us what to do,
Though some may claim to rule their lives and set their destiny,
The truth is that we're all the same in man's ignominy.

We're born and we will die with little say in either case,
Too soon to change the world and far too late to win the race,
Though time is never ending all our lives are but a blink,
Our days are but a journey that ends sooner than we think.

Verse #695

We sit and reminisce on all the days that have gone by,
the things that we have said and done in truth as much as lie,
we pray that there is time enough to right our every wrong,
in hope that when the end is nigh we'll hear the angel's song.

Tuesday, January 08, 2013

Verse #694

We think we know it all but we're still so far from the truth,
our species may be ancient but we're still just in our youth,
we've travelled quite a distance but we've still got miles to go,
though without a change of heart this will all end before we know.

Monday, January 07, 2013

Verse #693

We're all our own worst enemies- the only foes we face,
we're all lost in our memories- the shadows of our race,
we're all in search of mysteries- the secrets of our age,
we're all shaped by our fantasies- just words upon a page.

Sunday, January 06, 2013

Verse #692

As children we are fearless- dreaming of all we could be,
as teens we're dark and moody- pining for what cannot be,
as adults we put dreams aside for what we feel must be,
in latter years we reminisce on what could never be.

Friday, January 04, 2013

Verse #691

Love is our salvation from the hatred that we've found,
a guiding light to freedom from the darkness all around,
a portal to another world of happiness and peace,
a sacred realm of hope where all the pain and hurt can cease.

Thursday, January 03, 2013

Verse #690

By the light of the moon do we start a new day,
while you're safe in your bed do we come out and play,
from the depth of your dreams do we find our relief,
by the dark of the night do we craft our belief.

Wednesday, January 02, 2013

Verse #689

We strive for greater meanng- a reason to exist,
we fight for greater purpose- a cause we can't resist,
we march the greater distance to right all that is wrong,
we join the greater chorus to sing salvation's song.

Verse #688

As we wake to greet the dawn of love,
and look towards the skies above,
to usher in an age of peace,
when all our hate and greed will cease.
